A good face powder is essential to every woman’s makeup kit. It covers up blemishes quickly and gives you a flawless finish. It also does a great job of absorbing oil and grease, getting rid of unwanted shine.
Even a minimal amount will help set your makeup and create a flawless finish. Luckily, you don’t need to be a pro to do that. Keep these five essential rules in mind:
- Match your skin tone.
To find the right match, apply a bit of powder close to your jawline and neck. Don’t match to your hand, as the skin, there is a different color to your face. Also, take note if your powder’s color changes once it’s been on your skin for a few hours.
- Apply moisturizer first.
When applying makeup, you’ll want to moisturize first. This hydrates your skin and also makes powder application smooth. Make sure you use a moisturizer that can be quickly absorbed.
- Avoid the outer edges of the face.
Powder should be applied mostly around the center of the face where the majority of oil buildup happens: the T-zone, the outer corners of the nose, your chin, and cheeks. You can dust around the outer edges, but be careful when applying around the hairline so powder residue doesn’t end up on your hair.
- Don’t use too much powder.
The last thing you want is a cakey finish, so be sure to only use one coat of powder. Don’t rely on powder to cover up pesky blemishes; use concealer for those.
- Touch up with blotting papers.
Instead of piling layers of powder throughout the day, control shine with blotting papers. Layers of powder on oily skin result in a cakey appearance; blotting papers get rid of the grease without messing up your makeup.
